About this course

Larger furniture projects offer a number of new challenges for fledgling woodworkers. In this 6-week class, students will expand their basic woodworking skills by tackling larger pieces of lumber, more complex joinery, panel glue-ups, and moving parts while building a small side table with a drawer. These skills will be foundational for any larger woodworking projects that students may pursue in the future. In this class, students will build a small side table with a drawer out of cherry. There is a small amount of flexibility in the tabletop dimensions and table height, but individual students will be responsible for making all necessary adjustments to the overall dimensions if they choose to deviate from the original design. The drawer will slide on wooden rails, and will not have complex hardware. Students will be able to make or supply their own handle or knob, or leave the drawer front clean. This class is suitable for students who have taken one of our introductory woodworking classes. Students will need to be comfortable with using the miter saw, jointer, planer, and table saw to mill lumber and cut it down to size on their own.
